Marrying many of the dreamlike surrealist tropes of Magritte’s work with the wider influences of the collection, the design draws inspiration from the historic posters created for the transgressive Parisian institution, Folies Bergere, reworking the smoke-like illustrations used to frame images of the performers in a poster from 1902.
Embodying the surrealist motifs of the art nuevo era the print infuses energy, creativity, and a touch of craziness into every element. The Design Story
Founder and creative director, Anna Paola, this seasons collection is a celebration of unity and a return to all the pleasures that we have missed for so long – dancing, kissing, holding hands.With an eye for mischief, the SS23 collection titled “PLAISIRS DE L’ÉTÉ” is inspired by art movements and places in time that embody a spirit of playfulness, vivacity, and joy.
Drawing reference from movements such as surrealism, expressionism and the Parisian institution La folies Bergères, this season’s collection celebrates the joie- de-vivre these seminal movements had within the context of art and culture.
Paolita looks back through these movements of inspiration, colour, energy (and a little bit of craziness) as it glides towards a year-long summer, full of play, mischief, joy and touch.As the world finally wakes from a long winter slumber, Les Plaisirs De L’Été is a joyous homage to the pleasures of the summer, and more so, a celebration of unity and togetherness.

The Design Process
Informed perspectives on design, colouring, and ergonomics define the DNA of the PAOLITA brand, whilst Anna Paola’s rigorous eye for detail was obtained whilst working with iconic designers Alexander McQueen and Hussein Chalayan.
Anna Paola’s diverse array of influences informs her extensive research, which ranges from libraries, museums, archives, travels and endless sources of inspiration. Often spending weeks, and sometimes months, researching elements of art history, culture and nature, her proficiency to evoke stories through print has become a core aspect of PAOLITA’s brand ethos.
All our prints are designed in our London studio, hand-drawn by Anna Paola and constructed into garments by our atelier in Europe.
