What to Pack for a Mediterranean Holiday

There is a particular kind of dressing that only the Mediterranean demands. It is not the same as summer dressing elsewhere, not the breezy practicality of a British seaside trip or the low-key ease of a city break. The Mediterranean asks something more of you. It asks for colour, for intention, for the confidence to arrive at a clifftop restaurant in a printed silk dress and know, without question, that you are dressed exactly right.
Whether you are heading to Capri, Mykonos, the Côte d'Azur, or somewhere quieter and entirely your own, this is the packing list that has been carefully considered, not by an algorithm, but by a brand that has spent years designing for precisely this kind of trip.

Start with your swimwear and make it count

The swimwear you choose sets the tone for everything else. This is not the place for the suit you have had for three years. The Mediterranean is photographed, remembered, and savoured...the pool, the rocks, the boat. You will want to be wearing something you love.

Pack two to three pieces: a bikini for days on the water, a sculpted one-piece for the hotel pool, and a high-waisted set for when you want structure without effort. Look for prints that feel considered rather than loud…hand-drawn, painterly abstractions, colours that reference the landscape rather than compete with it.

Our Sole Mio collection was designed with exactly this kind of trip in mind. The prints are inspired by Mediterranean still-life, the colours of terracotta, citrus, and deep summer blue.

The cover-up is the most versatile piece you will own

A well-chosen cover-up works from beach to bar without announcement. This is the piece that moves with you: thrown over a bikini for a walk along the harbour, belted for an afternoon aperitivo, carried over your arm for a morning at the market.

Choose one that is loose enough to breathe in the heat but structured enough to feel intentional. A printed kimono with a draped silhouette, or a lightweight linen co-ord, will carry you further than almost anything else in your case.
The rule: if it can only be worn at the pool, leave it behind.

One printed maxi dress that does everything

The Mediterranean evening calls for a dress, specifically, a maxi with movement. This is the piece you reach for as the light changes: when you have come back from the water, had a cold shower, and want to feel effortlessly pulled together without thinking too hard about it.

If you are only packing one dress, make it one you have wanted to wear for a while. A trip like this deserves it.

The Paolita approach to packing

At Paolita, every piece is designed with travel in mind, which means limited quantities, prints conceived as complete narratives, and fabrics chosen for how they behave on a body in the heat and how they emerge from a suitcase. We produce in small runs specifically so that each piece feels singular rather than ubiquitous.

The best Mediterranean wardrobe is not a full one. It is a considered one, built around pieces you have thought about, wanted, and will reach for every day of the trip and again when you are home, remembering.
