Inspired by Talavera pottery from the Mexican cities of Puebla, Cholula and Tecali, and named after the Spanish city of Talavera de la Reina, the uniquely Mexican print has been produced since the 16th century and is a blend of indigenous and European artistry.
Traditionally painted in blue, only a few other colours were introduced to Talavera pottery over the centuries. The subtle and sophisticated shades of dark red, navy blue, earthy taupe and white that feature in this print reflect the simple colour palette of these artisanal tiles.
