A Focus on Slim Aarons

Anna Paola reveals one of the photographers who deeply inspires her: the legendary American photographer Slim Aarons.

Slim Aarons, who once said that the only beach worth landing on was “decorated with beautiful, seminude girls tanning in a tranquil sun.”

It is easy to see why. Paolita’s work, like Aaron’s, captures the carefree and luxurious joy of being under the sun, easy multiculturalism, and the glamour of celebrating beauty for its own sake and pleasure.

The very opposite of airbrushed photography today, Aaron’s photo shoots were always relaxed and informal. He employed no stylists and enforced a strict no make-up or primping rule prior to his shoots.

In a revolutionary break from the style of his time, Aarons always looked for the real and intimate look from his subjects and always got it, capturing celebrities during their everyday lives and in their natural environment, wearing their casual outfits rather than their public relations wardrobes.
